The Tourist. Zine. NY/MTL/London.

The Tourist is a new independent publishing house and newsprint publication. The concept is simple - one subject, one photographer and one writer per issue. Issue 1, to be released this December and titled The xx: Looking in From the Dark, features 40 pages of exclusive photos of The xx by Jamie-James Medina, alongside original hand written lyrics by Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim, and prologue by music critic Sasha Frere-Jones. 100 copies of Issue 1 are bundled with a limited edition xx vs. Vans vs. Tourist collaboration t-shirt which features an original hand written xx logo on the front of the garment by Romy Madley Croft and a stylized montage of xx photos by Jamie-James Medina on the back of the garment. Pairing high-end photography with original journalism, The Tourist covers the subject of entertainment and travel within an approachable and affordable zine format. Each issue features an extended photo essay by an acclaimed photographer that is contextualized through a foreword written by a cultural luminary. Over the next two and a half years, 10 issues of The Tourist, each limited to 500 copies, will be released. The Tourist is available for purchase for a mere $8 at the-tourist.org and in select retailers around the world.
