Singapore on Wednesday unveiled a new Cabinet line-up that will see Tharman Shanmugaratnam promoted to deputy prime minister while retaining his position as finance minister.
Three ministers, Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng, National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan and Transport Minister Raymond Lim will retire from the Cabinet.
Tharman, one of Singapore's highest-profile politicians, is currently chairman of the International Monetary Fund's International Monetary and Financial Committee, which is the fund's key policy-steering panel.
Lim Hng Kiang remains as minister for trade and industry.
Overall, 11 of Singapore's 14 ministries will have a new minister in charge, the government said in a statement.
Singapore's ruling People's Action Party (PAP) swept back to power in a May 7 general election but the opposition made historic gains and the prime minister signalled there would be change in the tightly governed city-state. [ID:nL3E7G70DF]
Lee Kuan Yew, the architect of modern Singapore and father of current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Goh Chok Tong, who succeeded the older Lee as prime minister in 1990, said on Saturday they will not be part of the new cabinet.
