Labour Day |
On May 1 every year, labourers across the world commemorate the historic struggle of Chicago labourers and express solidarity and make commitments for rights of workers.
In Pakistan, government departments, trade unions and social organizations will arrange workshops, seminars, conferences, discussions, besides holding rallies and walks to mark the Day.
Though the conditions of workers are bad across the world, these are worse in Pakistan. The federal government has fixed the minimum wages of workers at Rs 7,000 per month but unfortunately they are forced to work at far less salary. The private sector is exploiting workers and paying far less wages, in stark violation of the government directions. Indifference and lack of interest on the part of government functionaries is allowing the influentials to force the labourers to work in pathetic conditions and at low wages.
