Benoit Aquin. The Prix Pictet. 2008.
The Chinese 'Dust Bowl' series.
Unsustainable farming practices have turned arable land into desert. Caused by overgrazing of animals, over cultivation of land and over irrigation (use of rivers and aquifers). This is a preview of what much of the world's land could look like if we continue to use industrialized agricultural methods.
Pictet is a global wealth+asset management group based on environmentally sustainable business principles. The Prix Pictet is a new global prize in photography that focuses on sustainability. In its inaugural year the theme was water. The winner was Montreal photographer Benoit Aquin. Take the time to look at more of his work here.
