Fairfield Porter. Painter/Art critic. NY. 1907-1975.
oil on canvas.
Fairfield Porter was a self-taught artist who painted his friends and family, often at his summer house in Maine. Fairfield's vision as a painter was to 'reveal extraordinariness in ordinary life'... he once said, "When I paint, I think that what would satisfy me is to express what Bonnard said Renoir told him: make everything more beautiful." Fairfield definitely accomplished this. His paintings always makes me smile.
