Gillian Laub. Photographer. NY.
Gillian Laub's book entitled Testimony, includes 50 portraits of Israeli Jews, Israeli Arabs, displaced Lebanese families + Palestinians, each affected by the geopolitical context in which they live. The interviews that accompany each portrait offer a deeper insight into the suffering that these people experience, as well as the resilience, pride, and optimism they have. Two essays, one by the Palestinian-Israeli civil rights lawyer Raef Zreik, and the other by the Israeli author Ariella Azoulay, discuss the complexity of Laub's work and her intention for these images to initiate dialogue.
